Message-Id: Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII I'm keeping this short because there are lots of people on this list: I've got an idea for a way to conserve bandwidth. I've arrived in Halifax; I didn't get my birth certificate in time, so U.S. and Canadian customs are being a pain -- but it'll work out. Halifax is a pretty town: there's a giant British fort called The Citadel two blocks from my hotel. I walked around it last night, being careful not to fall into the 20-foot-deep trenches around it. The Knorr is huge: it always takes me a few days to orient myself in a ship, and this one may take weeks. More on the Knorr later. My e-mail address is sci5@knorr.whoi.edu. Please do send me email, but please don't send me big binary or text files (unless I ask). E-mail sent to any of my other addresses won't be read until I return in March. To make that clear, SEND EMAIL TO SCI5@KNORR.WHOI.EDU, NOT GOODMANJ@MIT.EDU. I'll be sending e-mail to this list as sort of a "sea diary": if you're not interested in hearing what I'm up to, say so. A real letter will follow in a day or so. Jason
