Some books I think people might enjoy here, that aren't well known:

*The Possessed- Elif Batuman*
This one's a non-fiction set of funny essays about being a professor of
Russian literature, which doesn't sound promising, but it's a delight,
especially parts like the literature conference where they decide to invite
a famous Russian author's family and they turn out to be comically awful.
Because Elif's family are Turkish, and she's bilingual, her university
decides to send her off to Samarkand for a summer to learn Uzbek, which is
very similar to Turkish. Her very eccentric landlady and all the Uzbek
university staff are really confused by the idea of someone coming to study
their language and end up giving her lessons on things like 100 poetic
words for crying via a Soviet textbook about cotton production

*Orpheus- Ann Wroe*
A biography of the mythological character

*Seeing Things- Oliver Postgate*
The autobiography of the creator of the Clangers and Bagpuss. It's a really
lovely read.
