 Seven Stories, the Centre for Children’s Books is very pleased to announce
the acquisition of the archive of the author Diana Wynne Jones.



Diana Wynne Jones (1934- ) has written over 40 books for children and
adults, principally fantasy novels, as well as several non-fiction works on
writing and the fantasy genre.  Some of her best-known works include
the *Chrestomanci
*series, the *Dalemark Quartet* and *Howl’s Moving Castle*, which was
adapted into an animated film by Hayao Miyazaki in 2004.  She won the
Guardian Award for Children’s Books in 1977 for *Charmed Life* (the first
book in the *Chrestomanci* series), she has been shortlisted for the
Carnegie Medal twice, and she has won several fantasy fiction awards,
including the Karl Edward Wagnar Award and the World Fantasy Award for Life
Achievement.



The archive is extensive, and contains drafts for numerous published books
including *Charmed Life*, *Witch Week* and *The Magicians of Caprona*;
the *Dalemark
Quartet*; *Hexwood*; *Fire and Hemlock*; *Dogsbody*; *Black Maria*; *Howl’s
Moving Castle*; and numerous short stories.  The collection also contains
some unpublished material, including several early unpublished novels,
correspondence and juvenilia.



This material will be catalogued and preserved over the next few months and
will then be available for research.  Please contact the Seven Stories
