"'ab" is "father', but as somebody else pointed out "'abd" is "servant, 
slave". Obadiah ('obed yah) is an exact counterpart to Abdullah.

If you mean that 'Abel' is 'ab-el', it isn't. The Hebrew is 'Habel' 
(actually,  'Havel').
