This is what I call pigtails too. I grew up in England, South Yorkshire
to be precise.

Plaited hair is a plait or plaits, unless it's lots of little ones,
which are braids. One bunch at the back is a ponytail; if it's a bit
more spread out (e.g. in a clip not a band) it's just "tied back".
