Utterly OT: origin of a phrase?

I'm asking here because I think some of you may well be able to help.
I'm looking (purely as a matter of personal interest) for the origin of
the phrase "a colour not found in nature". (If it helps short-cut
searches, I know it's _not_ in Lovecraft's _The Colour out of
Space_...)
