I like Sabriel by Garth Nix and Del Del by Victor Kelleher for scary 
reading, though perhaps they're not classicly gothic enough. The first 
has undead and malevolent spirits and lots of chasing, the second is 
psychologically creepy and has possession.
And yes, Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman.
A lot of good fantasy does get scary, doesn't it?
