Historical Fantasy

Many of Gury Gavriel Kay's novels amount to historical novels set in fantasy
worlds that are based on a real culture but without any additional fantasy
elements (eg The Lions of Al-Rassan). Some are like this but *with* fantasy
elements. The Sarantine Mosaic (consisting of two books) is an example of
the latter. The society/culture and its history is a fantasy one, but
loosely based on the Byzantine Empire and it does also have real fantasy
