It's not something I usually think about, but there *is* a war in the books. 
The king is about to get involved in it in HMC (which is why he's so eager 
to get Prince Justin back - he's a brilliant general), and by CitA it's all 
over. So it takes place off-stage, while Miyazaki seems to have moved it
