Deus ex machina

A while ago we had a brief discussion of Anscher's appearance as d ex m, and
whether that was ironic on DWJ's part or not. I don't remember it coming up
otherwise (at least in my time).

DWJ is fond of d ex ms, it's true, but I think the only one that ever really
bugged me was Chrestomanci's appearance at the end of M of C, which did seem
a little too pat. More often it feels like a kind of Shakespearian comedy
ending, with an authority figure arriving to dispense justice and put all to
rights.
