Have you come across the late Reinhardt Jungs _Bambert's Book of Missing
Stories_, in which the eponymous hero sends stories off attached to little
balloons in order to find their own most appropriate fictional settings? In
the final story, which Bambert had left blank, his ghost (he's fallen to his
death meanwhile) meets his own fictional characters and is taken off King
Arthur style on a barge.
