I'm not a roman, mum, and I never will be. I'm a kike, a yid, a
heebie, a hook-nose, I'm kosher, mum. I'm a red sea pedestrian, and
proud of it. -- _life of brian_

|"Medieval in origin, the legend of the Wandering Jew took on new energy in the
|sixteenth century with reported sightings of the bearded apparition, fluent in a
|dozen languages, in Hamburg, Strasbourg, Madrid, Beauvais, Lübeck and
|Vienna. An anti-Semitic German pamphlet of 1602, widely circulated throughout
|Europe, names him as Ahasuerus, a Jerusalem shoemaker, who taunted Jesus
|as he stopped to rest on the road to Calvary. Jesus responded: “I go, but thou
|shalt tarry till I come again.” Cursed to wander the road until Judgement Day,
|Ahasuerus repents, and thereafter preaches the gospel of love wherever his
|wanderings take him. "

|I can't actually remember if Jamie's acquaintance 'preaches the gospel'. Does
|he say something like 'repent while you still have time?' I remember him being
|batty, though... hm. Must reread.
