As regards Prydain, of course, the point is that Taran isn't a "true-
born King". He hasn't any rank at all - although he searches very hard 
to find what his family is, he hasn't any success. He becomes who he 
does on the basis of who and not what he is. And the old monarchy 
departs.
In a sense, this is part of Tolkien as well - the point isn't so much 
that there is a true king, as that it has come time for humankind to 
govern themselves.
