I've just read the new Tim Powers, Declare. Its his take on the
wheels within wheels in the world of the spy. Being Tim Powers
some of his wheels are eerily supernatural. The central figure
around whom all the wheels are spinning is Kim Philby, who was
called after Kiping's Kim so that brings that in, whose father was an
Arabist, which puts in it in Lawrence of Arabia territory and who
was a double agent working for the Russians in British Intelligence.
Its less frenetic than the usual Powers and, for once, the agonies
of the hero are more spiritual than physical.

Its just been on the late news about this new spy, Apparently he
decided on his course of action when he was 14 and read Philby's
biography!

                                           Ven.

You are trapped in that bright moment where you learned your doom.
