Not exactly in that genre, but related, was an interesting find from this
winter, CONJUROR'S ALIBI, by Kenneth Lillington from his earlier writing
life... you may notice if you read his jacket bios these days that he
mentions an earlier writing career, but only specifically mentions YOUNG MAN
OF MORNING, which came out in the early 70s. If CA is any indication, he was
writing "ripping good" stories in the 40s and 50s. CA is a fun book. The
characters are good young men and women back from school to somewhere in the
Home Counties (South of London, I think. It's pretty specific on geography),
where they spend winter vacation getting mixed up in some very fishy
goings-on involving a stage magician, imported diamonds, and and a dead MP.
Good luck finding a copy, though...
