This sounds descended from Yorkshire settlers to me. The tradition here is
hot pork pies with mushy peas and mint suace on top. My husband calls me a
southernlackey because after 20 years in Yorkshire I still don't like hot
pork pies or mushy peas and the mint sauce doesn't bear thinking about!
BTW a friend from Nottinghamshire puts sugar on top of the peas instead of
mint sauce now that really is babalooey as we say in my family.
