Regency romances

I wanted to assure those who haven't read any and may be quivering in horror
about the erotic/romantic glorification of abusive males that this is far
from being an invariable feature of the genre.

I admit that I haven't read a lot of regencies, though I've been reading
more lately, but Heyer in particular tends to be much more interested in
nice males than sinister ones. And it's my impression that there are plenty
of pleasant heroes in the field.

(I do have some problems with the restrictions on things packaged as
regencies, though. Why does everything have to be a romp? I love funny, but
that's not the same thing.)
