I think he uses the word snob, or some close variant, though he also talks
about how the stories reinforce the English capitalist class  system. (I
enjoyed his discussions of women's magazines like Peg's Own Paper and of
what a socialist propagandistic boy's story might be like. In other essays,
if I recall correctly.)

I can't quote, though-- my Orwells are in boxes in Marina, and I'm in
Fremont and shortly to move in in San Jose.

I have three, though two are purely nominal. And if David would like a
Rowling I anticipate he already has it. When I was buying books for David
and Ellen, I tended to stick to non-new, as they were likely to receive new
ones from a variety of sources. (The past tense is deceptive: Ellen's
birthday gift is two books.)
