Multiple genres

The transition between romance and mystery genres is a classic one. 
Particularly from the Regencies end of the romance field to what Robert 
Barnard dubbed the "Mayhem Parva" style of tea-cozy mystery. The common 
factor between the two being comedy of manners. I would say that these are 
not so much "character-driven" as "class-driven" consisting largely of a 
combination of sparks generated by friction between the social classes and 
the collision of individual action and social expectations.
