The large, odd ship tumbled out of a hyperspace portal, almost obscenely ugly and old. As it appeared on the monitors at the edge of Babylon 5's home system, Sheridan assigned Garibaldi and Ivanova to go over with a six man team and see what exactly was on board. It was a huge ship and if it was still operational might even be usable. They piloted a shuttle over and then split up into two teams. Susan wondered what they would find as they moved across the ship with their teams.
"Looks like I stepped into someone's techno dream of Hell. Figures."
Susan led her team down the corridors, shining her light into the odd little compartments that they passed. Most seemed to hold no real function at all, with no protuberances. She quickly found that many of the corridors led directly to the central chamber. She walked into the room and looked around at the cavernous room that seemed to be huge and held several walkways above a large space. She shone a light and looked down off the walkway she found herself on and gasped. There were row after row of eggs below her, ugly things that looked more like stones than eggs.
"Shit. Those things belong to one nasty Mother somewhere."
She led her team back out of the room and reported briefly to Garibaldi as she wandered the rooms. Then she found an area that looked like a Docking station, where a ship sat. The ship looked nothing like any ship Susan had ever seen, except it looked like something a human would design. She found the access door and panel and one of her team, a tech, had it opened fast.
She went inside and scanned the area, finding one sleeping pod nearby. It seemed to be a kind of suspended animation pod and inside it was a seemingly human woman. There was one panel on the side of the pod labeled very clearly "OPEN".
Susan sighed and regretting the decision already said, "What the hell.", and pushed the panel.
The pod lit up and shook and there was a humming sound from it as it glowed to life. She backed up and her team brought their weapons to bear but all it did was split in two and out of it climbed the woman. Tall, brunette, with legs up to there as the guys liked to say it. She was a striking woman and she held herself like a warrior... and almost animal-like. Her eyes scanned the room, and each of them in turn. Susan felt her eyes seem to go all the way through her as she stared at Susan for a moment. Then she stepped forward. She extended her hand and spoke in a pleasantly contralto voice.
"Hello. Nice to see something's haven't changed. Guns and stares still greet me everywhere I go."
"Hello, I am Commander Susan Ivanova, of the Babylon 5."
"Name's Ripley. There more of you?"
"Yes, there are-"
"Warn them to watch out for facehuggers, small crablike things that grab on to faces. Also don't let them disturb the eggs."
She spoke in an authoritative voice that irritated Susan immediately.
"Why should they be afraid of the eggs?"
"Because they grow up to be really nasty creatures, Bug-like, aliens. Ones that have no purpose other than to feed."
Susan gulped and called Garibaldi to warn him.
"You got a way off this ship?"
"Yes."
"Then we should go."
They made their way through the ship skirting the large egg-room and eventually meeting Garibaldi and his team in a large room near the shuttle. That was when there was a hissing sound and suddenly a dark form was amongst them. It was like a figure out of one of Garibaldi's old time horror movies. It was all ebony and graceful and it looked dangerous and ugly as hell. It attacked Arnes first, its clawed hands and biting mouth tearing him apart with incredible swiftness before they could move. Ripley had snatched Susan's gun and fired before she could even think and blasted the thing back into a wall. Ripley looked at the gun in disgust and instead grabbed a stanchion from some debris nearby. She swung at the creature and forced it back with seemingly superhuman blows. Susan, watching, felt like she was watching a clash of titans, of old time heroes and demons or gods. She felt a stirring of something primal deep inside her but then shook her head angrily. She brought out her backup weapon, and tried to get a clear shot, but the one shot she got off didn't do much at all. She cursed in Russian. She heard Garibaldi's matching swearing in old English and shared a momentary smile with him.
Susan shook her head and yelled above the clamor of the fight, ordering everyone into the shuttle. Ripley managed to impale the creature on the stanchion, and into the wall, before leaping into the shuttle and the doors snicked shut. As they shot away from the ship they saw several more aliens peering out of the airlock door into space after the shuttle they were in.
As they ran at full speed, away from the ship, Ripley caught sight of the station and it's guns and her expression brightened.
"Can you bring those to bear on that ship?"
Susan instantly got the idea and was calling the station even as she replied.
"Damn straight I can."
Susan held a quick two minute conversation with Sheridan, who was incredulous but willing to trust her when she finally yelled over the com. She was almost certain it was her invective and free use of it that had convinced him.
He ordered a full barrage and they watched as blast after blast shook the ship then destroyed it in a cloud of gas and debris that spread out slowly into the unused parts of the system. They turned about and headed slowly for the station. Ripley was smiling happily now, and there was something kind of off about her even so, but she seemed content to sit and wait through whatever might come. She seemed like a robot that had reached it end of usefulness and was now resting and awaiting the next crisis. Susan watched her and sighed.
This was going to be one hell of a report.
Later that evening, she was in her quarters when a signal showed someone at the door. She called come in and turned to look, and saw that it was, surprisingly, Ripley. Looking much better in a shipsuit and what looked to be make-up, Ripley had cleaned up very well. The debriefing and report writing had taken several hours and frankly Susan had been of the opinion that if she never saw another sign of Ripley or the Aliens after that, she would be doing quite well.
The woman seemed nervous for a minute then strode forward.
"What can I do for-mmmmph!"
Susan was cut off by Ripley's kiss. It was a hot passionate, intense kiss and it almost made her melt. She almo st felt reluctance as Ripley let her go and stepped back. Ripley looked at her with a certain sparkle in her eyes and licked her lips as she spoke.
"I just wanted to say thank you for the rescue. Oh and I will see you around, I signed on as a Security advisor for now."
Ripley left without a another word and Susan sat down hard. That kiss! That woman! Security advisor? Things would get very interesting indeed, Susan had a feeling.
