In Deep Secret and The Merlin Conspiracy, Ted Mallory is Nick Mallory's father and Maree Mallory's uncle. He is a SF/fantasy writer. To Maree's (and later Rupert's) distress, he regards his literary career as a "job like any other," and tends to think of things in extremely practical terms. On the positive side, he is jovial, kind, and generous - excessively so in the case of Nick, and modestly so in the case of Maree.
